Education, Space and Urban Planning
This book examines a range of practical developments that are happening in education as conducted in urban settings across different scales. It contains insights that draw upon the fields of urban planning/urbanism, geography, architecture, education and pedagogy. It brings together current thinking and practical experience from German and international perspectives. This discussion is organised in four segments: schools and the neighbourhood; education and the neighbourhood; education and the city and finally, education and the region. Contributors cover a wide range of contemporary and significant socio-political aspects of education over the last decade. They reinforce emergent thinking that space and its urban context are important dimensions of education. This book also underscores the need for more research in the relationships between education and urban development itself. Current urban planning does not fully connect our understanding in education with what we know in the spatial and planning sciences. Accordingly, this release is an early attempt to bring together a growing body of integrated and interdisciplinary reflection on education theory and practice.
Cultural Responses to the Far Right in Contemporary Germany
Against the backdrop of an insurgent far right and numerous deadly neo-Nazi attacks, various cultural practitioners have written far-right violence into Germany’s collective memory and imagined more inclusive futures in its wake. This volume explores contemporary examples from literature, music, theatre, film, television and art that respond to this situation. They demonstrate that, alongside the ways in which art expands the public sphere in terms of what is said and who is heard, aesthetic questions of how artistic works are presented are a crucial part of how they open up new perspectives.
Study Review on the Use of the Documentary Method in the Field of Research on and in Schools in English-speaking Scientific Contexts
Abstract: As both a methodology and a method, the Documentary Method represents one way of scientifically analyzing various phenomena in schools. The Documentary Method was originally developed in Germany, and discussions on its further development remain ongoing in the German-speaking scientific community. Simultaneously, the method has also gained recognition and use in English-speaking scientific contexts in recent years, including in the field of research on and in schools. Against this background, the present contribution reveals the results of a study review of the use of the Documentary Method in the field of research on and in schools in English-language literature. In order to yield a better understanding of the results, some key assumptions about the Documentary Method and its use in research on and in schools are additionally presented. Soziale Differenz und Reifizierung
Der Band widmet sich der Frage, welches Erkenntnispotential mit der kritischen Reflexion sozialer Differenzierungen im Forschungsprozess verbunden ist und fasst Beiträge aus unterschiedlichen Kontexten der empirischen Bildungsforschung zusammen.Im Zuge internationaler Leistungsvergleichsstudien erleben Fragen (schulbezogener) sozialer Ungleichheiten in der empirischen Bildungsforschung eine breite Revitalisierung. Dabei findet eine kritisch-reflexive Auseinandersetzung mit zugrundeliegenden differenzbezogenen Konstruktionsprozessen bislang vor allem in qualitativ-rekonstruktiv geprägten Forschungszusammenhängen statt.

Qualitative Bildungsforschung
In diesem Band werden method(olog)ische Fragen der qualitativen Bildungsforschung diskutiert, die erst im Forschungsprozess sichtbar werden. Am Beispiel konkreter Forschungsprojekte werden übergreifende forschungspraktische Probleme und Möglichkeiten ihrer Bearbeitung expliziert. Dabei werden die Potenziale und Grenzen etablierter methodischer Zugänge und Verfahren ausgelotet, projektspezifische Relationierungen von Erkenntnisinteresse, Methodologie und methodischem Zugang skizziert und metho(dolog)ische Modifikationen vorgeschlagen. Forschungspraxis wird dabei als Prozess von Entscheidungen und deren Begründungen sichtbar.

Während die Volkskirchen und manch andere über Jahrzehnte als stabil geltende Institutionen erodieren, tummeln sich vielfältige alte und neue religiöse Anbieter auf dem wachsenden spirituellen Markt. In dieser gesellschaftlichen Metamorphose stehen Menschen vor der Herausforderung, ihre eigene Berufsidentität zu stabilisieren oder erst zu finden.
