Assimilating the Primitive
This book examines the Mexican nationalist rhetoric that promoted race mixing as a cultural ideal, placing it within its broader contemporary polemic between vitalist and scientific thought. Part of its analysis compares the attitudes of anthropologist Manuel Gamio and educator José Vasconcelos with those of the European primitivist D. H. Lawrence, and concludes that although Gamio and Vasconcelos made lasting contributions to the construction of popular notions of mexicanidad, their paradigms were fatally flawed because they followed European prescriptions for the development of national identity. This ultimately reinforced the belief that indigenous cultural expression must be assimilated into the dominant mestizo culture in order for Mexico to progress. Consequently, these thinkers were unsuccessful in resolving the cultural dilemma Mexico suffered in the years immediately following the Revolution.

O idioma Yorùbá é cativante e apaixonante. É um idioma de difícil compreensão e domínio, fato esse que explica o desencontro de pronúncia, escrita e tradução por parte dos que o utilizam, principalmente na religião, no Candomblé. O desafio de estudar o idioma e colocá-lo em um livro foi aceito pela esperança de um dia poder ver os mais novos falarem e entenderem com uma maior igualdade e sem erros, muitas vezes absurdos e até mesmo insultantes para os Orixás. Tive a infelicidade de presenciar pessoas ensinando erradamente as palavras do idioma. Não quero em hipótese alguma ser o dono da verdade e nem tão pouco ofender alguém, principalmente porque pouco sei e tenho muito o que aprender, mas gostaria que a humildade e sabedoria prevalecesse e que as mesmas procurassem se informar e estudar um pouco mais antes de ensinar. Grande falha comete aquele que fala mas não sabe o que está dizendo!
