Ensuring the Rights of Migrant Workers
This collection provides insights into international labor migration in the context of globalization through the lens of international law and national law of some Asian countries that are the home countries of migrant workers. The main focus of the volume is on challenges regarding international labor migration that some developing countries in Asia have been confronted with. It investigates and determines current situations in some Asian developing countries having the majority of overseas migrant workers. It also places some emphasis on national regulatory systems of policies and regulations regarding overseas labour migration from those countries. In addition, in light of the current situation on international labour migration, the chapters outlines some recommendations and solutions for those selected developing countries in Asia to resolve existing problems to effectively ensure the protection of the rights of overseas labor migrants and governance of international labor migration in accordance with international standards.
The Final Flight: The Crash of Polish Air Force 101 and the Death of a President
On April 10, 2010, Polish Air Force 101 (roughly equivalent to the U.S. government Air Force One) carrying the Polish President, first lady, and 94 other high level government officials, clergy, military, representatives of Katyn Families, and other important individuals in Poland's business and culture crashed in a fog outside of Smolensk, Russia. The plane was on its way to a ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre. There were no survivors. This book describes what happened and why. It points out the complex nature of such tragic plane crashes often due to human factors. More importantly, it tells the story from the perspective of the people involved and the terrible loss to the country which resulted from this historical and tragic event.
Feeling Political
Historicizing both emotions and politics, this open access book argues that the historical work of emotion is most clearly understood in terms of the dynamics of institutionalization. This is shown in twelve case studies that focus on decisive moments in European and US history from 1800 until today. Each case study clarifies how emotions were central to people’s political engagement and its effects. The sources range from parliamentary buildings and social movements, to images and speeches of presidents, from fascist cemeteries to the International Criminal Court. Both the timeframe and the geographical focus have been chosen to highlight the increasingly participatory character of nineteenth- and twentieth-century politics, which is inconceivable without the work of emotions.

Picturing Death: 1200–1600 explores the visual culture of mortality over the course of four centuries that witnessed a remarkable flourishing of imagery focused on the themes of death, dying, and the afterlife. In doing so, this volume sheds light on issues that unite two periods—the Middle Ages and the Renaissance—that are often understood as diametrically opposed. Mudejarismo and Moorish Revival in Europe examines key aspects related to the reception of Ibero-Islamic architecture in medieval Iberia and 19th-century Europe. It challenges prevalent readings of architecture and interiors whose creation was the result of cultural encounters. As Mudéjar and neo-Moorish architecture are closely connected to the Islamic world, concepts of identity, nationalism, religious and ethnic belonging, as well as Orientalism and Islamoscepticism significantly shaped the way in which they have been perceived over time. In Search of the Culprit
Despite various poststructuralist rejections of the idea of a singular author-genius, the question of a textual archetype that can be assigned to a named author is still a common scholarly phantasm. The Romantic idea that an author created a text or even a work autonomously is transferred even to pre-modern literature today. This ignores the fact that the transmission of medieval and early modern literature creates variances that could not be justified by means of singular authorships. The present volume offers new theoretical approaches from English, German, and Scandinavian studies to provide a historically more adequate approach to the question of authorship in premodern literary cultures. Authorship is no longer equated with an extra-textual entity, but is instead considered a narratological, inner- and intertextual function that can be recognized in the retrospectively established beginnings of literature as well as in the medial transformation of texts during the early days of printing. The volume is aimed at interested scholars of all philologies, especially those dealing with the Middle Ages or Early Modern Period.
