Effects of Environmental Conditions on Nephron Number: Modeling Maternal Disease and Epigenetic Regulation in Renal Development
Abstract: A growing body of evidence suggests that low nephron numbers at birth can increase the risk of chronic kidney disease or hypertension later in life. Environmental stressors, such as maternal malnutrition, medication and smoking, can influence renal size at birth. Using metanephric organ cultures to model single-variable environmental conditions, models of maternal disease were evaluated for patterns of developmental impairment. Religionslehrkräfte interagieren tagtäglich in ihrem Unterricht mit konfessionell, religiös und weltanschaulich heterogenen Gruppen. Diese Buntheit stellt sie angesichts von Subjekt- und Kompetenzorientierung mal vor kleinere, mal vor größere Herausforderungen. Selbstverständlich geht es hierbei immer um die Frage: Wie kann ich meinen Schüler*innen gerecht werden und für alle gewinnbringend mit der Vielfalt im Klassenzimmer umgehen? Kompetente und praktische Hilfe gibt dieses Buch – und trägt damit dem Umstand Rechnung, dass es für diese Herausforderungen bislang nur sehr wenige Gestaltungsentwürfe gibt. Die Herausgeber*innen und Autor*innen möchten zum einen die Situation der Diversität im heutigen Religionsunterricht erläutern und ausloten. Aber vor allem möchten sie Religionslehrkräften Wege des didaktischen Umgangs aufzeigen, auf denen sie sowohl den Schüler*innen als auch dem Fach Religion gerecht werden können.
Captioning for Children
This volume gathers empirical and historical perspectives on closed captioning on German television for children who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing. It is partly based on a two-year study, SDH4KIDS, in which the following research question was addressed: Which subtitle-specific aspects have a positive impact on comprehensibility and acceptability of subtitled TV-programmes for d/Deaf and hard of hearing children aged between 8 and 12? The quantitative study with over 200 participants was accompanied by a qualitative study gathering eye-tracking data on subtitle reading behaviour with a smaller group of participants of the same age. Both studies are presented and discussed in detail. The results were furthermore used to develop guidelines for professional subtitling practice. In addition, this book provides a historical overview of subtitling practice for people who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing in the Federal Republic and the former German Democratic Republic of Germany. For this, previously unpublished material from the German Federal Archives has been examined.
