Etiology, Pathogenesis and Pathophysiology of Aortic Aneurysms and Aneurysm Rupture
This book considers mainly etiology, pathogenesis, and pathophysiology of aortic aneurysms (AA) and aneurysm rupture and addresses anyone engaged in treatment and prevention of AA. Multiple factors are implicated in AA pathogenesis, and are outlined here in detail by a team of specialist researchers. Initial pathological events in AA involve recruitment and infiltration of leukocytes into the aortic adventitia and media, which are associated with the production of inflammatory cytokines, chemokine, and reactive oxygen species. AA development is characterized by elastin fragmentation. As the aorta dilates due to loss of elastin and attenuation of the media, the arterial wall thickens as a result of remodeling. Collagen synthesis increases during the early stages of aneurysm formation, suggesting a repair process, but resulting in a less distensible vessel. Proteases identified in excess in AA and other aortic diseases include matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), cathepsins, chymase and others. The elucidation of these issues will identify new targets for prophylactic and therapeutic intervention.
EMOOCs 2021
From June 22 to June 24, 2021, Hasso Plattner Institute, Potsdam, hosted the seventh European MOOC Stakeholder Summit (EMOOCs 2021) together with the eighth ACM Learning@Scale Conference. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the conference was held fully online. The boost in digital education worldwide as a result of the pandemic was also one of the main topics of this year’s EMOOCs. All institutions of learning have been forced to transform and redesign their educational methods, moving from traditional models to hybrid or completely online models at scale. The learnings, derived from practical experience and research, have been explored in EMOOCs 2021 in six tracks and additional workshops, covering various aspects of this field. In this publication, we present papers from the conference’s Experience Track, the Policy Track, the Business Track, the International Track, and the Workshops.

Am Anfang war das Bild
Eine phantastische Wechselwirkung zwischen Erzählung und Bild. Geschichten lassen Bilder entstehen und Bilder Geschichten. Aus diesem Gedanken entstand die Idee, Autor:innen aufzurufen, Erzählungen zu schreiben, die von eigens für diesen Zweck entstandenen Bildern inspiriert sind. Gleichzeitig wollten die Herausgeber:innen Uli Bendick, Aiki Mira und Mario Franke herausfinden, was passiert, wenn ebendiese Geschichten zur Inspirationsquelle werden. Entstanden ist eine Anthologie, die 18 jeweils von zwei Bildern umrahmte Storys umfasst. Das schön gestaltete gebundene Buch mit Lesebändchen enthält Texte u. a. von Heidrun Jänchen, Achim Stößer, Christian Endres, Isabell Hemmrich.

2021 war das Jahr der privaten Raumfahrt: Jeff Bezos und Richard Branson haben bereits ihren ersten Flug hinter sich, ebenso William Shatner alias Captain Kirk. Das Science Fiction Jahr 2019
Auf posthumanistischen Wegen – der Rundgang durch die Science Fiction 2019 "Das Science Fiction Jahr" ist ein Kompendium, das seit 1986 in ununterbrochener Folge erscheint – erst im Heyne Verlag unter der Schirmherrschaft von Wolfgang Jeschke, dann unter Federführer Sascha Mamczak, und seit 2015 im Golkonda Verlag, ab 2020 bei Hirnkost. Das Science Fiction Jahr 2019 blickt auf das zurück, was die Science Fiction in Buch, Film, Spiel und Allgemeinen im letzten Jahr zu bieten hatte. Ein spezieller Fokus wird in dieser Ausgabe auf der Frage "Was ist eigentlich posthumane Science Fiction?" liegen. In Essays, Interviews, aber auch in unseren Rückblicken wird den Leser*innen das Thema immer wieder begegnen. Buchrezensionen, eine Bibliographie der in Deutschland erschienenen SF, eine Übersicht der vergebenen Genre-Preise sowie ein Nekrolog runden das Jahrbuch ab.
