This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed joint post-proceedings of the 10th Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence, CAEPIA 2003, and the 5th Conference on Technology Transfer, TTIA 2003, held in San Sebastin, Spain, in November 2003. The 66 revised full papers presented together with one invited paper were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement from an initial total of 214 submissions. The papers span the entire spectrum of artificial intelligence and advanced applications in various fields.

Multilingualism in European Bilingual Contexts
Despite the spread of multilingualism, the number of research studies in multilingual contexts is scarce. This book deals with this question by examining would-be teachers' language use and attitudes, as their influence on future generations can be enormous. The use of the same questionnaire and the same methodology allows the reader to compare the results obtained in different European bilingual contexts, where the presence of diverse foreign languages leads to a situation in which several languages are in contact.

Esta investigación se centra en el nivel de competencia lingüistica en lengua castellana que tiene el alumno inmigrante en 1o de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, analiza sus causas y trata de orientar en las actuaciones educativas.
Actitudes lingüísticas, escuela e inmigración. Los escolares ante la diversidad lingüística y cultural
En los países de Europa Occidental se están produciendo profundas transformaciones fruto de la llegada de población inmigrante. Con el objetivo de realizar un análisis profundo y riguroso de las actitudes lingüísticas de los jóvenes escolarizados en Cataluña, se integran la perspectiva cuantitativa y cualitativa con una doble finalidad: por un lado obtener indicadores que permitan determinar estadísticamente la situación actitudinal respecto al catalán y el castellano de los jóvenes escolarizados, así como las variables que se pueden mostrar significativas en su génesis y configuración y , a su vez, ser capaces de llegar a conocer cómo son construidas subjetivamente esas actitudes. La obra se estructura en dos partes. En la primera se expone el marco contextual y teórico de la investigación y en la segunda se presenta el trabajo empírico desarrollado.
