Die Universitatsbibliothek Wien ist der Dreh- und Angelpunkt wissenschaftlicher Informationsversorgung an der Universitat Wien. Die Festschrift fur Maria 'Mia' Seissl erscheint anlasslich ihres runden Geburtstages sowie des 15-jahrigen Jubilaums, das sie als Leiterin der Universitatsbibliothek feiert. Die Mitarbeiter_innen der Bibliothek, die sich in dem von Maria Seissl maageblich gestalteten Umfeld als 'Menschen im Aufbruch' begreifen, beschreiben und analysieren in ihren Beitragen die Entwicklung der Universitatsbibliothek Wien in einer Periode historischer Umbruche: Zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts galt es, den Wandel von einer staatlichen Institution zu einer universitaren Dienstleistungseinrichtung zu gestalten. This theme focuses on our responsibility for all animals kept or influenced by humans, to ensure that we can provide a life for them that takes into account all relevant aspects of animal welfare, aided by applied ethology as the key scientific discipline. This not only means avoiding and alleviating suffering but also promoting resilience and positive experiences. By monitoring and interpreting animal behaviour, we gain important insights into each of these aspects of quality of life.
Economic Evaluation of Climate Change Impacts
This volume deals with the multifaceted and interdependent impacts of climate change on society from the perspective of a broad set of disciplines. The main objective of the book is to assess public and private cost of climate change as far as quantifiable, while taking into account the high degree of uncertainty. It offers new insights for the economic assessment of a broad range of climate change impact chains at a national scale. The framework presented in the book allows consistent evaluation including mutual interdependencies and macroeconomic feedback. Learning Strategies in Engineering Mathematics
Birgit Griese presents MP2-Math/Plus, a support project for first-year students in engineering at Ruhr-Universität Bochum that aims at preventing unnecessary drop-out. Conceptualisation and development of the project follow a design research approach according to Gravemeijer, Cobb, and van den Akker. The interventions focus on learning strategies which are collected in a pre-post design with the aid of the LIST questionnaire by Wild and Schiefele. These and other data are utilised for the evaluation of MP2-Math/Plus. The results confirm the adaptations of the project procedures in successive cycles, stress the importance of effort and motivation, and assess the success of the project.
