Den Rücken vergessen! Diese bahnbrechende Methode verdankt ihre erstaunliche Wirkung einem scheinbaren Paradox. Um leidende Rückenmuskeln zu heilen, konzentriert man sich auf deren Gegenspieler: die Atemmuskeln. Viele ahnen nicht, dass die Ursache vieler Rückenbeschwerden Atemmuskeln sind, die zu wenig ausgelastet werden. Die meisten Rückenbeschwerden ergeben sich daher aus einer Störung des Energiegleichgewichts zwischen Rücken- und Atemmuskeln. Diese Störung wird wesentlich durch Arbeitsbedingungen verursacht, wobei die Atemfunktion zu kurz kommt. Dies merkt man kaum, denn die meisten Atemmuskeln schmerzen nicht: jedoch deren Gegenspieler im Rücken! Konventionelle Rückenschulen richten sich ausgerechnet auf schmerzhafte Zonen. Das Schmerzbewusstsein wird dadurch erhöht, was unweigerlich zu einer psychischen Abwehrreaktion gegen die Übungen führt. Anders gesagt: es macht keinen Spaß. All das passiert bei dieser Methode nicht. Sie zielt darauf ab, die beschwerdefreien Atemmuskeln zu aktivieren - und lässt den Rücken in Ruhe. Hintergrund dieser Methode ist der Leitgedanke der traditionellen chinesischen Medizin: die Ergänzung der Gegensätze.

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)
In May 2013 the chemical hexabromocyclododecane, or HBCD, was identified as a persistent organic pollutant (POP) under the international Stockholm Convention. This means that a worldwide ban on the sale and application of the chemical will soon become effective. For a long time HBCD was the most economically significant flame retardant used in polystyrene foam for insulation materials. We have compiled information about why the chemical will no longer be used, what transitional phases are likely to be in effect in the EU, what the alternatives are, and how to dispose of insulation materials which contain HBCD.

Negotiating Difference
Contemporary Chinese art is still a young field now being opened up to critical academic research. Negotiating Difference is a pioneering collection of articles which engage with contemporary Chinese art in a global context. The contributions collectively address the urgent methodological question of how to describe, contextualize and theorize artworks and artistic processes in and beyond the People's Republic of China since the end of the Cultural Revolution. The studies break new ground as they chalk out the transcultural entanglements of which art and its practices partake and which they in turn reconfigure. The book features 20 essays written by a select group of international junior and senior scholars engaged in ambitious and methodologically innovative research on contemporary Chinese art. Their multi-faceted, in part interdisciplinary approaches are complemented by four contributions by distinguished practitioners in the field, who - as art curators and critics - are located in China and explore key developments within Chinese art and the changing art scene of the last three decades.
Interdisciplinary management of central nervous system metastasis and neoplastic meningitis: recent developments and future perspectives
The incidence of metastatic disease in the central nervous system (CNS) is rising. According to current estimates, up to a third of adult cancer patients will suffer from CNS metastasis. Clinical evidence-based data from prospective randomized trials are rare, however, because CNS metastasis patients were often excluded from clinical trial participation. The management of CNS metastasis patients is therefore rather ill-defined and an interdisciplinary challenge. Recent basic and translational science data have begun contributing to a more profound understanding of the molecular mechanisms leading to invasion of tumor cells into the CNS. This report reviews advances, challenges, and perspectives in this field.
