La Tecnología y las Ciencias como sistema aplicado al Turismo
En la última década, la tecnología está cambiando la forma de vivir de una forma significativa, el turismo no está ajeno a esto, por ejemplo, la compra de billetes de transporte, los sistemas de reserva de alojamiento, la búsqueda de información sobre el ocio y la cultura dentro del destino turístico deseado, así como la orientación en el mismo, son solo algunos ejemplos de esto. Las nuevas tecnologías pueden contribuir para que la experiencia del turismo sea más accesible y satisfactoria para todas las personas; su desarrollo implica el conocimiento de las necesidades de todos sus usuarios potenciales, incluyendo las de las personas mayores, personas con discapacidad u otras personas con movilidad reducida. Por estas razones este colectivo se propone brindar en estos libros una panorámica que le sirva a estudiantes y expertos para poder entender y aplicar estas tecnologías al turismo, viéndolas de forma sistémica y comprendiendo la esencia en sus innovaciones.
Forest Context and Policies in Portugal
This book provides an up-to-date analysis of the Portuguese forests and forestry sector, including its history, its total economic value, current threats and opportunities and future challenges, namely the need to incorporate more planning and technology in forest management practices. The methodological approach of analysing the forestry sector in terms of its total economic value, and the use of this new perspective to correctly perceive the forest sector and to base development strategies is unique. Also, the use of new methods and technologies in the Portuguese forestry sector will be an opportunity to share these experiences with a wider international audience. For example, fire incidence during the summer has almost no parallel in the Western World, implying that Portuguese forest landscapes function as a “natural lab of wildfires” from which much can be learned globally. Thus, the outcomes of the fire management policies adopted might represent important lessons for Mediterranean basin countries.

Metallo-Supramolecular Polymers
This book introduces the synthesis, electrochemical and photochemical properties, and device applications of metallo-supramolecular polymers, new kinds of polymers synthesized by the complexation of metal ions and organic ditopic ligands. Their electrochemical and photochemical properties are also interesting and much different from conventional organic polymers. The properties come from the electronic intra-chain interaction between the metal ions and the ligands in the polymer chain. In this book, for example, the electrochromism that the Fe(II)-based metallo-supramolecular polymer exhibits is described: the blue color of the polymer film disappears by the electrochemical oxidation of Fe(II) ions to Fe(III) and the colorless film becomes blue again by the electrochemical reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II). The electrochromism is explained by the disappearance/appearance of the metal-to-ligand charge transfer absorption. The electrochromic properties are applicable to display devices such as electronic paper and smart windows.
